New piece .. lots of work .. exhausted … love you all .. love your work … will try to catch up on the weekend.
A few new photos I’ve just processed. My yearly dose of Queen Anne’s Lace has turned a bit macabre – it looks like it’s about to bite.. and I love this “tired tree”.. I call it “The Need for Rest” ..
Going to try to catch up on everyone’s posts.. Been a busy summer so far, and a good one. I’m now awaiting the arrival of my granddaughter, Isla, who will be born – apparently – when she’s good and ready. I’m hoping with every fiber of my being that she’s got the red hair to go with that stubbornness. :)
I see you all posting and I can’t even comment.. arghhhhhh!
I’ve been working diligently at the newspaper (going to leave in the Fall – or at least that’s the plan). Also getting ready for four summer art fairs – the first of which is on July 4th… I’m totally not ready and am very stressed.
ahhhh … sweet anti-anxiety medicine ;)
Okay, here are a few photographs I’ve done recently – some just this past weekend. Just a few to let you know I’m still alive and working on photography ;)
The Art of Leaf
Foggy Dock – Revisited
Seth in Thought
I took this just this morning as I drove out through the country on an assignment. I’ve always loved how alone this house looks.
Alone, but alive…
Rudyard (black and orange) is the school my kids went to so I always root for them. They are going to the quarter-finals for Class C basketball this Tuesday. If they win, they’re onto the semi-finals Thursday and then the finals on Saturday (if they win).. They play hard, they are scrappers… I love them :) The sports editor said the 2nd photo is the best we’ve ever had .. I like others but what do I know? I’m just a girrlllllll :P
Just for fun – taken with my iPhone – I was watching Cesar Millan and I noticed Farley was watching him, too. Unfortunately I couldn’t get the shot quick enough to catch him with his back to me looking up at his “hero” …
or at least through an overlay of frosted glass… The rest is as it was … blue sky on a day so cold the sea smoke rises off the water (the part that isn’t ice already), frost that covered branches in thick coats.
I like the silence of it..
This was very hard to do because I can’t get my mind around what I think is my best/favs or what others will think. So, in the end, I decided to put up some I truly love, and I’m sure you recognize as my “style” of photo in the first three.
In my daily life, I do small town photojournalism.. can’t even be called that most days. In fact, when I finish this I have to run out and see if I can find some kids sledding or snowboarding or god knows what – just for a front page photo.
Unfortunately within a span of a week, two local soldiers died in Afghanistan. I didn’t know them or their families, but I knew them. I had seen them at the store.. one of the young men hung out at the Recreation Center I used to work at when he was a boy … a mother and step father work at the post office and I’d chat with them when I was mailing out packages.
You see, I didn’t know them.. but I did … we all did.
The 4th photo was very hard to take but I took it. I won an Associated Press award for it but I wouldn’t let our newspaper announce it. I hope I never have to take one of those photographs again.
The last photo is one of my favorites and was very disappointed that my editor would not use it. It says it all… an old lady holding a “say no to Socialism” sign.. probably bought her posterboard and markers with money from her social security check..
These are my top 5 as I see it.
If I’m wrong.. let me know, k? ;)
In the midst of Winter I often need a reminder of the wonder of Spring …
I’ll catch up on your posts and do my “five favorites” this weekend when I’m not crazy busy at work..
