Pronghorn

One of my favourite pictures of the trip. This is a pronghorn antelope. You usually can’t within 50 yards of them but for some reason, this fella was fine with me being there… They’re the second fast land animals in the world (60mph), having evolved to outrun the now extinct N.American cheetah. They’re running prowess now vastly outstrips anything left on this continent. Anyway, wonderful animals and I felt lucky to see one up close like this.

  1. Exquisite focus and out of focus viusal work. Impressive.

  2. Man you are so good at that, and I like how you are being selective (excuse the pun!) about it’s use. Here it hints for me at the hidden secret of his speed, which an almost vapourous feel to the air around him. Yes, quite awesome, and I imagine as a huge print will stop most people in their tracks. 3. Love it. Is the selective focus post processing?

  4. Thanks guys… Jeff – no post processing done on this image (just scanned)… the selective focus is done in camera.

  5. Can’t add much to KAl’s eloquence, he even managed to get a pun in there!
I’ve never even heard of a pronghorn so great to see one in this way for the first time. Quite a rare moment then I’d say, to get this close to such a shy and fast creature! There seems to be a load of animal shots posted at the moment, I’m sure I have a Hindu cow to post when I get to it.
